After trading away wide receiver Davante Adams during the season, the Las Vegas Raiders now have a significant need at the position. While Jakobi Meyers is a strong option, the team lacks depth behind him.

Fortunately, several wide receivers have connections to new head coach Pete Carroll. Some fans have speculated about a potential trade for Seattle Seahawks star DK Metcalf, but such a move would be challenging to execute.

A more realistic target could be Tyler Lockett. At 32 years old, Lockett has spent nine seasons under Carroll’s coaching and remains productive, recording 600 receiving yards in 2024. He could serve as a solid No. 3 receiver on a competitive team.

Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report sees the Raiders as a strong fit for Lockett if he departs Seattle.

“The Las Vegas Raiders could also be interested in Lockett,” Knox wrote on Feb. 13. “New head coach Pete Carroll coached the wideout for most of his NFL career, and the Raiders could use another talented pass-catcher alongside Jakobi Meyers, Tre Tucker, and Brock Bowers.

“Presumably, the Raiders will be eyeing a quick turnaround with a new quarterback in 2025.”

Tyler Lockett Is Still Under Contract

The Seahawks face a crucial decision regarding Tyler Lockett this offseason. While he’s a franchise legend and fan favorite, he’s also aging and carries a hefty $30 million cap hit for 2025. Releasing him would result in a $13.9 million dead cap hit.

A trade is another possibility, but Seattle may struggle to get significant value in return. If Lockett is cut, the Raiders could be a strong fit. With Pete Carroll now in Las Vegas, Lockett’s familiarity with the coach could help establish the team’s new culture.

Additionally, he’d provide much-needed veteran leadership to an offense that lacked it last season. While he may no longer put up elite numbers, he could still be a valuable asset for a team like the Raiders.

Should Raiders Pursue DK Metcalf?

While Lockett would be a reasonable addition for the Raiders, he wouldn’t significantly elevate their offense. His teammate, DK Metcalf, would have a much greater impact. At 27, Metcalf remains one of the most physically dominant wide receivers in the league.

There have been rumors that Seattle could move on from him. While teams rarely part with players of Metcalf’s caliber, the Seahawks are dealing with one of the league’s worst salary cap situations. With only one year left on his contract, Metcalf will be looking for a new deal, but Seattle may not be in a position to extend him.

Given his contract status, the Raiders might be able to acquire him for a second-round pick. That would address a key need at wide receiver for Las Vegas and give them a formidable duo alongside Jakobi Meyers.
