The Los Angeles Rams are preparing for the possibility of parting ways with Cooper Kupp. The 2021 Super Bowl MVP’s future with the team is uncertain, and even head coach Sean McVay has weighed in with a candid response about the situation.

Speaking with the media on Thursday, McVay addressed Kupp’s uncertain future, emphasizing the wide receiver’s honesty throughout the process.

“I think how he feels is honest about the situation. I think he’s been very clear and upfront, and I respect that,” McVay shared.

The coach went on to highlight Kupp’s profound impact, both on and off the field, including the personal influence he’s had on McVay himself.

Cooper Kupp will 'definitely be playing football' in 2025

“Cooper has changed my life for the better,” McVay said, acknowledging not only Kupp’s remarkable performance but also his contributions as a leader and captain.

“What he’s done as a player is incredible—not just in terms of production, but also for what he represents and the culture we’ve built. It’s a blend of business and personal because this is still about relationships,” McVay explained.

McVay reiterated Kupp’s transparency and expressed optimism about navigating the situation together, saying, “We’ll be able to figure out what’s the best way to move forward.”

Does Rams HC Sean McVay believe Cooper Kupp can still impact?

Cooper Kupp is no longer the dominant wide receiver he was in 2021 when he led the league in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns, finishing the year as a Super Bowl champion with 145 catches, 1,947 yards, and 16 touchdowns. Since then, injuries have taken their toll, and Kupp has ceded the WR1 role to Puka Nacua over the past two seasons. He hasn’t surpassed 75 receptions, 813 yards, or six touchdowns since that incredible 2021 campaign.

Does this mean Kupp’s prime is over? Head coach Sean McVay addressed the situation, referencing Kupp’s own words during locker clean-out week.

“As he told you guys, he still has good football left,” McVay said. “He wants to play for a handful more years. He did everything he could control this season, and for that, I’m really proud of him.”

However, Kupp’s future with the Rams remains uncertain. He’s owed $29.7 million in salary for 2025, but only $5 million is guaranteed. Additionally, he’ll turn 32 in June, which raises further questions about his longevity.

The Rams, meanwhile, are embracing youth on offense, just as they have on defense by adding players like Kobie Turner, Byron Young, Braden Fiske, and Jared Verse. With Puka Nacua and Pro Bowl running back Kyren Williams leading the way, Kupp’s time in Los Angeles may be nearing its end. McVay, however, was candid about the situation and left no doubt about the challenges ahead for Kupp.
