Just In: Kirk Herbstreit’s Fresh Talk About Anthony Richardson

Last offseason, the Indianapolis Colts took a significant gamble by selecting Anthony Richardson with the No. 4 pick.

Richardson was a divisive prospect.

His exceptional athleticism, strength, and speed were undeniable, but his limited experience and occasional accuracy issues raised some concerns.

Not for Shane Steichen.

Despite being sidelined by injuries for much of his rookie season, Richardson showed promise in his limited appearances.

Now that he’s fully recovered, it would take a lot for the Colts to entertain the idea of a different quarterback.

However, Kirk Herbstreit has a different view.

During the Colts’ preseason finale, the well-known analyst suggested that it wouldn’t be surprising if the Colts considered Joe Flacco as a backup option should Richardson struggle (as reported by Awful Announcing).

Unsurprisingly, fans quickly criticized him on social media.

The truth is, the likelihood of 39-year-old Joe Flacco replacing Richardson is extremely slim.

The Colts have committed to Richardson as their franchise quarterback, and even if he faces challenges in his first full season as a starter, they’re likely to stick with him for at least another offseason.

There really shouldn’t be any debate about the quarterback position in Indianapolis, especially not between Flacco and Richardson.

While Flacco is an experienced veteran, his prime is behind him, and the Colts are focused on building a sustainable future.
