Dan Campbell highlighted two reasons why the Lions offense appeared to return to form against the Seahawks.
The Detroit Lions’ offense resembled its true form on Monday night against the Seattle Seahawks, averaging 7.8 yards per play and going a perfect 5-for-5 in the red zone, leading to a 42-point performance.
While David Montgomery delivered the standout “Angry Run” of the game, Jahmyr Gibbs contributed with 78 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Sam LaPorta, now in his second year, had four receptions for 53 yards as he aims to rebound from a slow start to the season.

During Tuesday’s press conference, Campbell was asked about Gibbs but also briefly mentioned LaPorta.
“They’re both coming along,” Campbell said. “I felt like yesterday, they both looked fresh and ready. They seem healthier now than they’ve been since the start of training camp, and they’re trending upward.”
He elaborated more on Gibbs, saying, “He’s improving every week. Yesterday, there were about three runs that were so close to breaking for big gains. It’s been like that each week, and I expect he’s on the verge of taking off. He’s coming on strong.”

Gibbs was hampered by a hamstring injury during training camp, so it’s not surprising that it’s taken him a few weeks to fully recover, as Campbell noted.
Similarly, LaPorta dealt with his own hamstring issue during camp, followed by a right ankle injury in Week 3 against the Arizona Cardinals. However, by the end of last week, he was fully cleared from the injury report. He looked his best all season in the game against Seattle.
Both Gibbs (over 1,200 scrimmage yards and 11 total touchdowns) and LaPorta (holding every season record for a Lions tight end and the NFL record for rookie tight end receptions) had stellar rookie campaigns last year. If Monday night’s game marked the healthiest they’ve been in over two months, with the offense performing at a high level and both players trending upward, Campbell essentially issued a warning to the defenses the Lions will face after their Week 5 bye.
