The Cincinnati Reds’ rotation will have to suffice for now. According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Boston Red Sox are close to finalizing a trade with the Chicago White Sox that would send catching prospect Kyle Teel, along with others, to Chicago in exchange for left-handed pitcher Garrett Crochet. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic later provided more details, revealing the trade also includes outfielder Braden Montgomery, infielder Chase Meidroth, and right-hander Wikelman Gonzalez.
The Reds were reportedly in the mix for Crochet but stepped back after acquiring Brady Singer from the Kansas City Royals in a deal that sent Jonathan India and Joey Wiemer to Kansas City.

Reds’ strike out on top trade target following Red Sox-White Sox blockbuster
The Reds always seemed like an unusual landing spot for Crochet, given the depth of their starting rotation. However, persistent rumors tied Cincinnati to the White Sox, making the possibility of adding the lefty more realistic. Ultimately, though, Crochet is heading to Boston in exchange for a trade package featuring some of the Red Sox’s most promising young players.
This deal is a major win for the White Sox and highlights what Cincinnati would have needed to give up to acquire Crochet. Both Teel and Montgomery, former first-round picks and top-100 prospects in baseball, headline the package. For comparison, the Reds would have had to part with players like Chase Burns and Cam Collier as the centerpieces of a deal, along with additional top-20 organizational prospects.
While missing out on Crochet stings, the Reds still boast a loaded rotation heading into spring training in Goodyear. Nick Martinez, Hunter Greene, and Rhett Lowder ended the season on the active roster, and Nick Lodolo, Graham Ashcraft, and Andrew Abbott are expected back from injury. Add in Chase Petty, Connor Phillips, and the likes of Singer and Burns, and Cincinnati’s rotation remains formidable even without Crochet.
