The Cubs are making adjustments to their coaching staff, as reported by Jesse Rogers of ESPN on X. The team has parted ways with first base coach, assistant hitting coach Jim Adduci, bullpen coach Darren Holmes, and a couple of strength coaches.
All three coaches have experience as former major league players. Napoli, who played from 2006 to 2017 primarily as a catcher and first baseman, joined the Cubs’ staff in 2020 as a quality assurance coach and became the first base coach in 2022.
Adduci’s MLB career spanned from 2013 to 2019, with a two-year break to play in Korea in 2015 and 2016. He was hired by the Cubs in 2021 as a run production coordinator and is currently listed as the assistant hitting coach for game planning on MLB.com.
Holmes, a major league pitcher from 1990 to 2003, has worked as a bullpen coach for several teams, including the Rockies (2015-2019), Orioles (2020-2023), and the Cubs in 2024.

The Cubs appointed Craig Counsell as their manager last November, and his first season in Wrigley ended with an 83-79 record, identical to the previous season. Although it’s often hard to pinpoint the impact of individual coaches in a large staff, Counsell and the Cubs seem to be making these changes in hopes of progressing next season.
