The Atlanta Braves have decided to part ways with former All-Star infielder, officially releasing him on May 25, 2025, due to ongoing performance struggles.

Before his release, He was batting just .194, managing only six hits, one run, and one RBI in 31 at-bats. Since his breakout All-Star season in 2023, he has been unable to recapture that level of play. He was also a member of Atlanta’s 2021 World Series team.

During his peak year, Arcia posted a .264 average with 129 hits, 65 RBIs, and 17 home runs. However, his production dipped significantly, as he batted only .218 in 2024 and saw further decline in 2025.

Here’s a breakdown of the Braves’ latest roster change.

Orlando Arcia Signed With the Rockies Days After His Release by the Braves

There’s some positive news for Orlando Arcia — the veteran infielder has landed with a new team. Arcia has signed a major league contract with the Colorado Rockies, despite having interest from several other MLB teams. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, both the Yankees and Mets extended minor league offers to Arcia, which he declined in favor of the Rockies’ MLB deal.

“Orlando Arcia has agreed to a major league contract with the Rockies,” Heyman shared via a series of posts on X. “The Yankees and Mets had offered him minor league deals before the Rockies stepped in.”

Following his release, Arcia posted a heartfelt message expressing gratitude to the Braves and their supporters.

“I want to express my deepest thanks to the Braves organization, my teammates, staff, and most importantly, the fans,” Arcia wrote in a May 27 Instagram message. “It’s been one of the greatest honors of my career to wear this jersey and represent this city.

“From the start, you embraced me and stood by me through every up and down. I’ve grown tremendously here — both as a player and a person — and I’ll always carry that with me. To my teammates: thank you for the shared memories, the tough battles, and the strong bond we had in the clubhouse. Those moments will stay with me forever,” he added.

“Though I’m moving on to a new chapter, Atlanta will always be close to my heart. Thank you for everything.”

Braves Manager Brian Snitker Backed Orlando Arcia Months Before His Release

Arcia isn’t the only Braves player facing difficulties in 2025. Despite entering the season with high hopes, Atlanta currently sits at 25-28 after their first 53 games.

The Braves are already trailing significantly in the race for the top spot in the NL East. Before the season started, Braves manager Brian Snitker expressed faith in Arcia.

Braves: Why Orlando Arcia is not 'underrated', per Brian Snitker

“I don’t pay attention to spring training stats,” Snitker told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Justin Toscano on March 20. “Spring training doesn’t matter to me. We’ll start evaluating a week from now.

“I’ve seen that he’s been our starting shortstop, and we’ve won about 193 games over the past two years, so that’s a strong track record.”

Unfortunately, Arcia’s performance didn’t improve in Atlanta. A new opportunity in Colorado might help him regain his form.

For the Braves, the struggles extend beyond Arcia, and it will be interesting to see whether the team makes bold moves before the MLB trade deadline on July 31.
