JUST IN: Boston Red Sox Top Outfield Target Seeking Blockbuster Contract As Fates Intertwined

The Boston Red Sox missed out on the Juan Soto sweepstakes, as the New York Mets secured the star slugger with a record-breaking 15-year, $765 million contract. Despite this setback, the Red Sox are still actively pursuing power hitters this offseason.

They’ve been linked to players such as Alex Bregman, Nolan Arenado, Anthony Santander, and Teoscar Hernandez, any of whom would be major assets to their lineup. With Tyler O’Neill joining the Baltimore Orioles on a two-year deal, the Red Sox are in need of an outfielder.

One outfielder they’re targeting is Teoscar Hernandez, a veteran who played a key role in helping the Los Angeles Dodgers win the World Series. Despite expectations that he would re-sign with the Dodgers, Hernandez has yet to agree on a deal, creating an opportunity for both the Red Sox and the Toronto Blue Jays to pursue him.

MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reported that Hernandez is seeking a three-year contract worth $22-$24 million per year, a substantial amount for a player who is not known for his defense but had an impressive offensive season with the Dodgers. Hernandez posted a .272/.339/.501 line, hitting a career-high 33 home runs and driving in 99 RBIs.

Last offseason, the Dodgers signed Hernandez to a one-year, $23.5 million deal after he was unable to secure a multi-year contract. While his postseason numbers dropped to a .250/.352/.417 line with three home runs and 12 RBIs, the Red Sox still view him as a potential solution to replace the 31 home runs lost with O’Neill’s departure.

While Santander would also be an ideal addition, having hit 105 home runs over the past three years, he is reportedly seeking a five-year deal, which may be too expensive for the Red Sox. Regardless, the Red Sox are in need of a big bat this offseason to compete with the New York Yankees and the Orioles.
