The Boston Red Sox may be turning the tide.

Seattle Mariners are interested in adding Triston Casas to their lineup but remain hesitant about the Red Sox’s high asking price. With recent trade activity, the Mariners might need to reconsider and part with their ace to secure more offensive power.

The Red Sox are in clear need of rotation help, and Luis Castillo is a known target. FanSided writer Cody Williams suggests it’s time for Seattle to soften their stance.

“The Mariners are nearing desperation in their search for offensive firepower,” Williams noted. “That could play to the Red Sox’s advantage if Craig Breslow is ready to seize the opportunity.”

While the Red Sox aren’t actively shopping Casas, Breslow isn’t likely to budge on his demands. Any deal would hinge on Seattle agreeing to send Castillo to Boston.

The Mariners, with the best rotation ERA in baseball last season (3.38), are among the few teams equipped to handle losing a top pitcher. Though replacing Castillo wouldn’t be easy, it could prove less costly than addressing their offensive shortcomings through free agency.

Seattle’s general manager, Justin Hollander, is well aware his team can’t afford another season near the bottom in batting average and OPS. A Castillo-for-Casas trade may not be a straightforward one-for-one swap, but it offers a logical framework that could benefit both teams.
