The pursuit of Alex Bregman has become one of the most captivating narratives of the offseason. While teams like the Houston Astros and New York Yankees appear to be out of the running, the Detroit Tigers, Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox, and a handful of others remain in the hunt for the nine-year veteran.
Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report recently projected that Bregman will leave Houston to sign a lucrative contract with the Boston Red Sox, rumored to be worth around $200 million.
“Adding another bat would limit big league opportunities for top prospects like Roman Anthony, Marcelo Mayer, and Kristian Campbell, but what a great problem to have—too many quality options,” Miller wrote. “Financially, the Red Sox could afford multiple Bregmans.

“Their current estimated payroll is $168 million, but given their annual revenue, they should be among the teams aiming for a $300 million budget. This positions them to likely outbid Detroit.”
Recent reports suggest the Red Sox might use Bregman as a second baseman, making Boston the frontrunner to secure the star infielder.
However, adding Bregman would involve significant adjustments. Shifting Rafael Devers to first base while slotting Bregman at third would require multiple changes. Alternatively, leaving Devers at third and Triston Casas at first appears more straightforward. Either way, acquiring a veteran of Bregman’s caliber would undoubtedly boost Boston’s lineup.
