Earlier this offseason, the Boston Red Sox acquired Garrett Crochet via trade. With a deep and talented farm system, they may consider trading some of their top prospects to acquire a superstar capable of helping them win immediately.
Patrick McAvoy of Sports Illustrated proposed a potential blockbuster trade that would send Fernando Tatis Jr. from the San Diego Padres to the Red Sox:

Padres receive:
- OF Wilyer Abreu
- RHP Kutter Crawford
- INF Franklin Arias (No. 4 prospect)
- RHP Richard Fitts (No. 10 prospect)
Red Sox receive:
- OF Fernando Tatis Jr.
Giving up two top-10 prospects, along with Abreu and Crawford, is a steep price, but one the Red Sox could be willing to pay. Tatis, when healthy and available, is among the best players in baseball. While he’s had his share of injuries and a suspension, he could become the star Boston has been seeking, similar to their pursuit of Juan Soto.
“This would be a significant haul,” McAvoy noted. “The Red Sox would part with two cost-controlled, proven big-league talents in Abreu and Crawford, plus two top-tier prospects in Arias and Fitts. In return, Boston would gain a slugger for the future in Tatis.”
Tatis boasts an impressive résumé as a two-time All-Star, two-time Silver Slugger, Gold Glove, and Platinum Glove winner. Over the past two seasons, he’s hit 46 home runs while posting a .265/.329/.467 slash line.
Meanwhile, Abreu, who won a Gold Glove in his first full MLB season, is a promising young talent. His inclusion in any trade for Tatis would likely be a necessity.
