The Boston Red Sox entered the offseason with ambitious goals, aiming to bolster their roster and compete with the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles for the top spot in the American League East.

While the team has already added players like Garrett Crochet and Walker Buehler, they may not be done making moves as the season approaches.

Ryan Finkelstein of Just Baseball recently predicted that the Red Sox could further strengthen their lineup by signing free agent Randal Grichuk from the Arizona Diamondbacks. Finkelstein envisions Grichuk joining Boston on a one-year, $12 million deal.

“Last year, Randal Grichuk signed a one-year, $2 million contract to serve as Joc Pederson’s platoon partner in Arizona,” Finkelstein wrote. “Grichuk excelled in his role, primarily facing left-handed pitching, where he delivered an impressive .319/.386/.528 slash line with a 151 wRC+ over 184 plate appearances.

“Even in limited opportunities against right-handers, Grichuk performed well, hitting six of his 12 home runs and posting a 116 wRC+ in 95 plate appearances. Defensively, he was reliable in both corner outfield positions.”

Given his strong performance as a platoon option last season, Grichuk could be a valuable and cost-effective addition for the Red Sox. Although he would likely be utilized as a designated hitter, his offensive skills suggest he could thrive in that role on a budget-friendly deal.
