JUST IN: Atlanta Braves To Land $55 Million Seattle Mariners’ All-Star Infielder To Improve Lineup, As Braves Look To Orlando Arcia’s Lack Of Offensive Production

Orlando Arcia’s struggles at the plate in 2024 have the Atlanta Braves exploring potential upgrades at shortstop for the future. Arcia posted a .218 batting average and a .625 OPS as the team’s primary shortstop, which falls short of the offensive firepower the Braves need to compete with teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League.

The window to find a replacement is narrowing, but the Braves have a notable free-agent option in Jorge Polanco. Although Polanco endured one of his worst offensive seasons in 2024, hitting just .213 with the Seattle Mariners, his career numbers—.262 batting average and a 109 OPS+—suggest he could rebound.

Polanco’s down year may have been influenced by the Mariners’ overall offensive struggles, and a move to Atlanta could offer him a fresh start. Over his career, Polanco has demonstrated the ability to perform at a high level, and joining the Braves might reignite his production.

He’s projected to command a four-year, $54.7 million contract, but his 2024 performance could lower his market value, potentially making him a cost-effective signing for Atlanta. If hitting coach Tim Hyers can help Polanco rediscover his form, he could bring stability to the shortstop position and contribute to a more balanced Braves lineup in their pursuit of NL East dominance.
