The Cincinnati Bengals have their starting running back for the 2025 NFL season in Chase Brown, who had a breakout year in 2024, rushing for 990 yards and seven touchdowns.
Although Brown is set to lead the backfield, the Bengals may still seek to strengthen the position this offseason. They re-signed veteran Samaje Perine for his third stint with the team but could also explore options in the draft or free agency.

With their need for additional depth at running back, RotoBaller recently identified the Bengals as a potential landing spot for four-time Pro Bowl running back Nick Chubb, who has spent his entire career with division rival Cleveland Browns.
RotoBaller lists Bengals as a logical destination for Nick Chubb
Chubb made his return last season after missing more than a year due to a serious knee injury, only to suffer a foot fracture late in the 2024 campaign. Now a free agent, he’s searching for a new NFL team.

While injuries and age may have diminished his explosiveness, Chubb—who posted four consecutive 1,000-yard seasons from 2019 to 2022—could still be a valuable contributor. If healthy, he would provide solid depth and experience to Cincinnati’s backfield.
Chubb could be a strong complement to Brown, assuming he has fully recovered from his 2023 knee injury. While he wouldn’t be the primary back in Cincinnati, he could still hold some fantasy value—especially if the Bengals choose not to add another running back in the draft.
That scenario seems unlikely, but with other roster needs to address, Cincinnati may opt to use its draft capital elsewhere and look to free agency to round out its backfield.
The possibility of Cincinnati signing another running back in free agency isn’t far-fetched, but whether that player will be Chubb remains uncertain. The Bengals could also address the position in the 2025 NFL Draft, as NFL insider Matthew Berry expects them to do.
One way or another, it seems likely that Cincinnati will bolster its backfield before the start of the 2025 season.
