Is Colts star Jonathan Taylor prepared for the Texans?

The Indianapolis Colts may not have had the smoothest season, but they hold a 4-3 record and are in a strong position in the AFC playoff race as they approach the halfway mark. With their star offensive player back on the field, their potential could increase significantly.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Jonathan Taylor has been cleared from the injury report and will play in Sunday’s divisional matchup against the Houston Texans.

When will Jonathan Taylor return? Week 7 updates for Colts RB

Taylor missed three games due to a high-ankle sprain he sustained against the Pittsburgh Steelers in late September. However, after practicing this week, his return seemed imminent.

This comes at an ideal moment as the Colts face a challenging stretch of games, including the Texans, Minnesota Vikings, and Buffalo Bills in consecutive weeks. Additionally, wide receivers Michael Pittman Jr. and Josh Downs will also be available for the game.

Colts’ Jonathan Taylor loves playing the Texans

Although this Houston team is different and Jonathan Taylor is returning after a break, the former All-Pro running back has historically excelled against this AFC South rival.

In his seven career games against the Texans, he has scored nine touchdowns and averages 5.7 yards per carry. However, it’s important to mention that his only subpar performance against Houston occurred in their last matchup in September 2024, where he had 16 carries for 48 yards and one touchdown.

The Colts are relying on the 2021 rushing leader to perform well this Sunday afternoon. Taylor has shown promise in limited action this season, racking up 349 rushing yards on 72 carries, along with four touchdowns in four games. He’s eager to overcome his lingering ankle issues from 2022. A matchup against the first-place Texans could provide the motivation he needs to perform at his best.

The Colts’ chances of victory likely hinge on how effectively Taylor can run the ball. If they manage to pull off an upset, it might force a reevaluation of the AFC landscape.
