The Indianapolis Colts have decided to bench Anthony Richardson, raising questions about whether the young quarterback could be traded. Head coach Shane Steichen announced on Wednesday that veteran QB Joe Flacco would take over for the remainder of the season, though he emphasized the team hasn’t “given up” on Richardson.

Unsurprisingly, this decision has fueled trade speculation around Richardson. Fox Sports insider Jordan Schultz reported that several NFL teams have approached the Colts to discuss Richardson’s availability, though a trade seems “unlikely” as the Colts still view him as a “franchise-caliber quarterback.”

Last week, Richardson faced criticism from fans and former NFL players for pulling himself out of the Colts’ Week 8 game against the Houston Texans, saying he was “tired.” His performance in the 23-20 loss was rocky, completing only 10 of 32 passes for 175 yards, with one touchdown and one interception.

The 22-year-old has missed 15 games due to injuries since being drafted in 2023, a reflection of both his raw skill set and physical prowess that the Colts are not ready to give up on just yet.
