There’s still time to turn this situation around. Shane Steichen just needs to acknowledge his mistake.

For Indianapolis Colts fans, the past two weeks have been incredibly difficult to watch. It’s been painful, discouraging, and downright exhausting. Losing isn’t something fans enjoy, but most understand that sometimes it’s part of the journey.

When a team is rebuilding or focusing on young talent, a few rough seasons can be expected. Fans get that—they understand and can accept it. What fans struggle with, however, is mediocrity and a lack of direction. When there’s no clear plan moving forward, fans start to feel disheartened and lose interest. Shane Steichen is teetering on that edge, but he still has a chance to redirect.

The choice to start Joe Flacco was intended to give the team its best shot at winning. However, two key issues are becoming obvious.

First, Flacco’s recent performance shows that he’s not delivering as expected. He’s been making costly errors, and as a seasoned player, he should be protecting the ball and making smart decisions, not game-changing mistakes. His stats simply aren’t reflective of a winning formula.

Second, it’s clear now, if it wasn’t before, that this roster isn’t built for a championship run. Winning shouldn’t have been the primary objective this season. Instead, developing Anthony Richardson and getting him in sync with other young players should have been the top priority. This team isn’t one player away from contending, and yet, Steichen continues to go with Flacco. Watching Flacco stumble through games feels pointless compared to watching Richardson grow—even with some expected challenges.

Steichen doesn’t appear to be reconsidering his choice. If this decision is solely his, it’s unfortunate. A strong leader should be able to admit a mistake. Devoting this season to a promising young quarterback is far more exciting, valuable, and practical than watching an aging veteran struggle. If this decision is influenced by others within the organization, that’s an even bigger red flag for the team’s future.

If Shane Steichen is in charge of this call, he needs to put aside his pride and give Richardson a shot. This season is slipping away, and Flacco can’t salvage it. Let’s give Richardson a chance and see if he’s ready to lead the team. If not, then it’s time to consider other options. But the only way to know is by letting him play. So please, Shane, I’m asking you—let’s see what Richardson can do!
