The Indianapolis Colts improved to 3-3 for the season after defeating the Tennessee Titans 20-17 in Week 6. Joe Flacco stepped in at quarterback again since Anthony Richardson was sidelined due to an oblique injury. Although Flacco has performed well since taking over in the Colts’ Week 4 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team plans to stick with Richardson as their starting QB when he is healthy enough to return.

Assuming no setbacks, Richardson is expected to be back on the field this Sunday against the Miami Dolphins. Colts running back Jonathan Taylor is looking forward to the return of the second-year quarterback. Taylor has witnessed Richardson’s dedication and preparation firsthand, which he believes will pave the way for a successful career.

Colts: Anthony Richardson speaks out on Jonathan Taylor's return

“Everyone in the NFL is talented, but it’s the off-the-field work and routine that truly set you apart. How are you going to gain an edge over other players? I’ve seen him do that every day, both on and off the field. Watching him continue to grow is exciting – you’ve seen him play; he’s going to make electrifying plays and be a game-changer,” Taylor shared via NFL Network on X.

“He’s going to be very special to watch in the coming years,” Taylor added.

The Colts picked Richardson with the fourth overall selection in the 2023 draft. He was named the starting quarterback as a rookie, but his season ended early due to an AC joint injury that required surgery. In 2024, he helped the Colts start with a 1-2 record before being injured during the Week 4 game against the Steelers. An oblique injury kept him out for the following two weeks.

With Joe Flacco stepping in, the team managed a 2-1 record. Flacco nearly led an incredible comeback against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5, as the Colts scored 24 points in the fourth quarter, but they ultimately fell short in a 37-34 loss.

With Richardson set to return, the Colts could have their top three playmakers back on the field in Week 7. Taylor also suffered an injury during the game against the Steelers and couldn’t play in Week 6, but he may be ready to go against the Dolphins. Wide receiver Michael Pittman faced a serious back injury in Week 5 and was initially expected to miss several weeks, potentially landing on injured reserve. However, he made a surprising recovery and participated in the Colts’ Week 6 victory over the Titans.

Currently, the Colts are in second place in the AFC South and aim to improve to 4-3 with Richardson’s return against the 2-3 Dolphins.
