The San Francisco Giants have taken a major hit this season, losing two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell, who signed a five-year deal with their archrivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the reigning World Series champions.

Snell’s departure leaves a significant gap in the Giants’ starting rotation. However, the team is already looking to rebound and reportedly has “strong interest” in signing another top-tier free-agent pitcher.

According to MLB Network Insider Mark Feinsand, the Giants are pursuing Cy Young winner, the most sought-after pitcher on the market. Burnes is expected to command a lucrative contract, potentially exceeding $300 million.

Burnes, who shined in his first season with the Baltimore Orioles in 2024, posted a career-high 15 wins, a 2.92 ERA, and pitched 194.1 innings. The 30-year-old ace, a four-time All-Star, brings the durability and elite performance the Giants need to bolster their rotation after Snell’s departure.

Securing Burnes won’t be easy, as nearly every team with the financial resources to compete is expected to pursue him. Historically, the Giants have often fallen short in landing marquee free agents. However, with three-time World Series champion and former MVP Buster Posey now at the helm, there’s hope the outcome could be different this time around.
