The San Francisco Giants finished with an 80-82 record, missing out on the postseason. A key issue was the batting lineup’s inconsistency, though the pitching staff also needs bolstering, particularly after Blake Snell joined the Los Angeles Dodgers.

On the bright side, Giants fans have reason for optimism as the team appears to be a leading contender to sign one of the top pitchers still available in MLB free agency.

Jon Morosi reveals why San Francisco Giants could hold edge in His negotiations

Corbin Burnes, a former Cy Young winner with a career ERA of 3.19, has garnered considerable interest from the San Francisco Giants. After spending last season with the Baltimore Orioles following six years with the Milwaukee Brewers, Burnes is seen as a potential upgrade for any team, including the Giants.

MLB Network’s Jon Morosi suggests the Giants might have an advantage in pursuing Burnes, partly because they aren’t also in the running for Juan Soto.

“The Giants are interested in Corbin Burnes, as noted by Mark Feinsand. Unlike some teams chasing Burnes, the Giants haven’t been linked to Soto, allowing them to allocate more financial resources to Burnes. However, Soto and Burnes share the same agent, and Burnes might gain leverage by waiting until Soto signs, as the teams missing out on Soto could then turn their attention to Burnes.”

While this focus could lead to a quicker deal for the Giants, they face stiff competition, as multiple teams are vying for the ace pitcher with four All-Star appearances to his name.
