The Los Angeles Chargers had an impressive start to the 2024 season under new head coach Jim Harbaugh, but their momentum came to a halt with a disappointing Wild Card loss to the Houston Texans—a game that exposed several key weaknesses on the roster.
One of the most glaring issues is at wide receiver. With Keenan Allen and Mike Williams both departing before the 2024 season, the team was left thin at the position, lacking both depth and top-tier talent.

Although Williams re-signed with the Chargers this offseason, the need for more impactful receivers remains. That’s why the team reportedly met with Duke wideout Eli Pancol following an outstanding Pro Day performance, per Justin Melo of The Draft Network.

Pancol spent six seasons at Duke, overcoming injuries in 2022 and 2023—the latter forcing him to miss an entire year—before breaking out in 2024 with 60 receptions, 798 yards, and nine touchdowns.

His Pro Day showcased elite athleticism, placing him among the most physically gifted receivers in the draft. Despite concerns over his injury history, that level of athletic upside could entice teams to take a chance on him in the later rounds, potentially on Day 3.
Prospects like Pancol can be game-changers in the draft. Hitting on a high-upside player late can shift a team’s draft class from average to excellent—and could cement a general manager’s reputation with fans and ownership alike.
Every franchise hopes to uncover that hidden gem, and Pancol might just be one worth betting on.
