For the second consecutive game, the Seattle Seahawks will be playing with limited rest, but head coach Mike Macdonald isn’t dwelling on that. Macdonald stressed that “nobody cares” about the Seahawks’ recent short recovery periods compared to their opponents.

“It doesn’t matter how challenging it is,” Macdonald told reporters on October 7, 2024. “Nobody cares; we just have to work harder. That’s the reality. It’s an opportunity to fix things in four days, and that’s where our focus needs to be.”

Seahawks' Mike Macdonald hits team with reality check after getting torched by Lions

In Week 5, Seattle faced the New York Giants after a significant difference in rest between the teams. The Seahawks had played the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football, while the Giants played the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday in Week 4.

Next, the Seahawks will meet the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football, also on four days rest. Fortunately, the 49ers will be in the same situation with equal rest time.

Mike Macdonald Is Frustrated With the Seahawks Rushing Attack: ‘You Got to Have More At-Bats in the Run Game’

Seattle started strong under Macdonald, winning their first three games, but they are now on a two-game losing streak. One of Macdonald’s biggest frustrations has been the Seahawks’ inability to run the ball effectively against the Giants, with Ken Walker getting only 5 carries for 19 yards.

“We need more chances in the run game,” Macdonald said on his weekly show with Seattle Sports’ “Brock and Salk.” “We have to give K-9 [Walker] more touches, and Zach as well. There’s no way around it.

“Looking back, there were more opportunities in some drives where we could’ve returned to our usual approach and ensured Ken got the ball. Every game will differ, but giving him only five carries is unfair to him.”

Geno Smith on 49ers-Seahawks Clash: ‘We Got to Be Ready’

Geno Smith of the Seahawks discussed his approach to their upcoming Week 6 game against the 49ers, shortly after Seattle’s loss to New York. Already focusing on the next matchup, Smith shared his mindset during an October 6 press conference.

“I’ve always led by example,” Smith said about his strategy for the 49ers game. “I just need to keep improving, working harder, and I’m excited for tomorrow. It’s another chance to work on my game, be a better leader, and motivate the team. We’re still early in the season.”

Reflecting on the team’s recent struggles, he added, “Two straight losses weren’t what we wanted, but it’s the situation we’re in. We’ve got another tough opponent coming up, and we need to be ready.”

In Week 6, the Seahawks are 3.5-point underdogs at home against the 49ers. Both teams are looking to recover from Week 5 losses, with the Seahawks at 3-2 and sitting atop the NFC West, while the 49ers have had a slow start at 2-3.
