As the NFL trade deadline nears, the Dolphins might consider trading a veteran defender if they face a loss to the Bills in Week 9.

The Miami Dolphins are at a pivotal point in their season. Heading into Week 9 with a record of 3-5, a win could keep them in the playoff race, while a loss would push them to 2-6, likely on the outside of contention. After last Sunday’s defeat to the Arizona Cardinals, head coach Mike McDaniel spoke about the team’s current position.

If Miami loses its divisional matchup against the Buffalo Bills in Week 9, the team may look to sell players before the trade deadline. Defensive lineman is one of the players who could be traded, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, with several teams already expressing interest in the veteran pass rusher. The trade deadline is set for Tuesday, November 5, at 4 p.m. ET.

At 38, the former Defensive Player of the Year may not be as dominant as he once was, but the 17-year veteran still has an impact on the field and brings leadership to any team in playoff contention. Signed by the Dolphins as a free agent in the offseason, Campbell has recorded 22 tackles, two sacks, three passes defended, and a forced fumble over seven games in his first season with Miami.

The Dolphins are set to face the Bills for their second matchup this season. In their initial meeting in Week 2, Tua Tagovailoa suffered a serious concussion, forcing him out of the game. Before his injury, Tagovailoa had been having a tough time against Buffalo’s defense, completing 17 of 25 passes for 145 yards, with one touchdown and three interceptions.

After the injury, Tagovailoa was out until Week 8. Even with their starting quarterback back, the Dolphins narrowly lost to the Cardinals 28-27 last Sunday. This defeat dropped Miami to a 2-5 record, placing them third in the AFC East. Following the loss, Campbell showed his veteran leadership by discussing ways the team could bounce back.

Tagovailoa performed well in his return against Arizona after his extended absence, completing 28 of 38 passes for 234 yards and a touchdown, along with 13 rushing yards on three attempts. The Dolphins led by nine points going into the fourth quarter, but their defense couldn’t hold off two scoring drives from Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, who sealed the comeback with a last-second field goal.

If the Dolphins continue to struggle against the Bills in Week 9, they might consider selling at the trade deadline. A move involving Campbell could see him end the season with his sixth NFL team.
