The Boston Red Sox made a big splash to start the offseason, significantly bolstering their rotation by acquiring a rising star.
In a trade with the Chicago White Sox, Boston sent four notable prospects to land left-hander Garrett Crochet. The 25-year-old boasts electrifying stuff, giving the Red Sox a true No. 1 starter at the top of their rotation.
With two years of team control remaining, questions have already arisen about whether Boston can lock down their new ace for the long term.
That possibility seems to be on the team’s radar. According to MassLive’s Chris Cotillo, the Red Sox have initiated talks with Crochet regarding a potential contract extension. Securing such a deal—ideally before the 2025 season—would be a major win for Boston, both in the short term and for their future.

Locking up Crochet would solidify the top of their rotation for a key competitive window while signaling the organization’s commitment to retaining star players and investing in young talent from their system.
Crochet will lead a revamped Red Sox rotation in 2025, which also includes Walker Buehler, Tanner Houck, Brayan Bello, Lucas Giolito, and Kutter Crawford.
