The Arizona Wildcats have named Becky Burke as the new head coach of the women’s basketball team, following the departure of longtime coach Adia Barnes, who is now leading the program at SMU.
Burke, recognized for her high energy, player-centered coaching style, and modern offensive tactics, takes on the role with strong backing from the university and fans. Her coaching résumé includes impactful tenures at South Carolina State, Charleston, and Buffalo, where she made notable progress in team development and recruiting.

Arizona Athletic Director Dave Heeke praised Burke’s leadership and enthusiasm, saying, “Becky brings a bold vision for Arizona Women’s Basketball. Her connection with players and ability to build competitive teams made her stand out.”
Burke inherits a program that reached national prominence under Barnes, highlighted by a run to the NCAA Championship game in 2021. With a strong recruiting class and a solid group of returners, she aims to continue that success and guide the Wildcats into a new chapter.
“I’m incredibly honored and excited to lead this program,” Burke said at her introductory press conference. “Arizona has a rich tradition, and I’m eager to get started with these amazing student-athletes.”
Fans can look forward to a new, fast-paced style of play as Burke begins her tenure heading into the 2025–26 season.
