The Philadelphia Eagles are in a unique position heading into the 2025 NFL Draft, owning the 32nd overall pick as the reigning Super Bowl champions. While strengthening the defense is still a priority, A to Z Sports’ draft expert Adam Holt suggests the Eagles may opt for the best player available rather than focusing solely on positional needs.

In his latest mock draft, Holt forecasts that Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden could slip to the end of the first round, providing the Eagles with a potential steal, even though wide receiver isn’t an urgent need.

Golden, who transferred from Houston to Texas in December 2023, had a standout season in 2024, setting career highs with 987 receiving yards, nine touchdowns, and averaging 17 yards per catch.

His draft stock soared after an impressive performance at the NFL Combine, where he ran a blazing 4.29-second 40-yard dash, the fastest among all wide receivers and the second-fastest overall at the event.

Despite the Eagles already having a strong receiving corps with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, adding Golden’s elite speed could further enhance their potent offense. With uncertainty about the veteran depth behind Brown and Smith, the rookie could develop without immediate pressure to contribute, setting him up for long-term success in Philadelphia.

Golden himself spoke about his decision to declare for the draft at the Combine, saying, “That was my end goal, was to make it to the next level.” If he’s still available at pick 32, the Eagles might help him achieve that goal while securing a first-round talent at a significant value.
