With the 80th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts selected Minnesota cornerback.

The move raised some eyebrows, given that GM Chris Ballard had already signed Charvarius Ward in free agency and the team had depth at corner with Jaylon Jones, JuJu Brents, Kenny Moore II, and Samuel Womack III.

Still, the Colts needed depth behind Kenny Moore in the slot. As mentioned previously regarding DJ Giddens and Jonathan Taylor, Moore is in the penultimate year of his deal, which the team can opt out of, saving $10 million. While a release seems unlikely, it’s worth keeping in mind.

Justin Walley, Minnesota, Cornerback

Walley was projected to go anywhere from the third to sixth round. He’s an explosive, agile player with strong instincts for disrupting passes—leading Minnesota with 10 pass breakups last year and ranking eighth in the FBS with 12 passes defended.

He earned second-team All-Big Ten honors as a senior and was remarkably dependable, starting 42 of 49 games over four seasons. He’s faced off against top receivers like Marvin Harrison Jr., Charlie Jones, David Bell, and Jayden Reed.

Walley appeared on Query & Company Thursday to discuss:

  • His pre-draft experience with the Colts

  • The challenge of covering Tyler Warren in Minnesota’s matchup with Penn State

  • His personal ties to Indianapolis
