Left-hander is returning to the AL Central after signing with the Chicago White Sox, the team announced Sunday.

Originally a second-round pick by the Tigers in 2015, He became a free agent after being designated for assignment by the Brewers and clearing waivers last week.

The 30-year-old has signed a one-year, \$760,000 deal — the MLB minimum — and will immediately join the White Sox’s 40-man roster.

He previously pitched for the Tigers for five seasons after debuting in 2019 against the White Sox. He later spent 2023 with the Rays and was on his third MLB team with the Brewers this year.

He made headlines in 2020 by striking out nine consecutive batters in relief — a Major League record. Over his career, he’s made 120 appearances (43 starts), logging 341 1/3 innings with a 4.38 ERA and 273 strikeouts.

In 2023, he pitched exclusively out of the bullpen for Detroit before a lat strain ended his season in July. Following his release, the Rays picked him up, and he made 23 appearances (nine starts) with a 5.10 ERA in 2024 before being non-tendered.

Alexander then joined the Brewers, where he struggled, posting a 6.19 ERA over 36 1/3 innings and a 9.24 ERA in May before being DFA’d again.

With the White Sox owning the worst record in the AL and one of the weakest pitching staffs in the league, Alexander offers a veteran presence capable of eating innings in a rebuilding situation.
