Done Deal: Just in Los Angeles Rams Trade Lands $97 Million League-Leading All-Pro Cornerback

The Los Angeles Rams have been rumored to possibly reunite with former star cornerback Jalen Ramsey, now with the Miami Dolphins. However, pursuing a trade for Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs might be a smarter move.

Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report suggests Diggs “could benefit from a fresh start.”

A trade proposal from Heavy Sports goes beyond Sobleski’s estimation that a 2026 sixth-round pick might be enough to acquire Diggs, potentially landing the standout cornerback in Los Angeles.

Proposed Trade:
Rams receive: Trevon Diggs
Cowboys receive: 2026 sixth-round pick

Sobleski noted on May 22 that both Diggs and the Cowboys might be better off parting ways.

“Teams in need of cornerback help should consider taking a chance on Diggs,” Sobleski wrote, pointing out that when healthy, he’s among the top defensive playmakers in the NFL. A deal would also give Dallas financial flexibility to re-sign cornerback DaRon Bland, who becomes a free agent in 2025, or to commit long-term money to star pass rusher Micah Parsons.

Sobleski added that Dallas has plenty of options to replace Diggs. A post–June 1 trade would save the Cowboys $9.6 million, with just $2.9 million in dead cap. Meanwhile, the Rams, with $19.5 million in cap space (according to Over The Cap), can afford to take on Diggs’ $9 million base salary.

Diggs is in the second year of a five-year, $97 million contract.

Trevon Diggs’ Injury History a Major Red Flag

Diggs is entering his sixth season in the NFL. He achieved All-Pro and Pro Bowl recognition in his second year, and earned another Pro Bowl nod in his third.

But his development has been hampered by injuries.

“Diggs has suffered season-ending injuries to the same knee in consecutive years, limiting him to just 13 games,” Sobleski noted. “While the 26-year-old has the potential to rebound, the Cowboys may not see the return they had hoped for.”

In 2021, Diggs led the league with 11 interceptions, 142 return yards, and two touchdowns. Since then, he has tallied just six interceptions across three seasons, missing 21 games during that time.

Meanwhile, the Rams did not bring in any cornerbacks through free agency or the 2025 NFL Draft. They’ve even considered bringing back Jalen Ramsey, who spent more than two seasons with the team and was instrumental in their 2021 Super Bowl run.

This could point to a pressing need to strengthen their secondary—or it might indicate that they’re only willing to make a move for someone they already trust, like Ramsey.

Jalen Ramsey’s Underrated Ability Amid Rams Trade Rumors

In terms of trade possibilities for the Rams, Diggs presents a younger and more affordable option compared to Ramsey, who is set to earn \$24.2 million guaranteed in 2025. However, Ramsey stands out for his durability, which has allowed him to consistently maximize his athleticism.

From 2020 to 2024, Ramsey missed no more than two games in four of those five seasons and has completed a full season in five of his nine NFL years.

In contrast, Diggs missed 23 games over the 2023 and 2024 seasons combined.

If the Rams need to sweeten a deal for Diggs, including tight end Tyler Higbee could be logical. The team drafted Terrance Ferguson in the second round of the 2025 draft and still has Colby Parkinson, a free-agent addition in 2024, on the roster.
