The Denver Broncos were one of the surprise success stories in the NFL last season, making a playoff appearance behind rookie quarterback Bo Nix.
Although they were soundly defeated by the Buffalo Bills in the opening round, the team has used the offseason to strengthen its roster—most recently by signing former Los Angeles Chargers running back.
Dobbins, who suffered a torn Achilles in Week 1 of the 2023 season with the Baltimore Ravens, later joined the Chargers and eventually became their lead back in a crowded backfield. However, with Los Angeles choosing a new direction at running back this offseason, the Broncos seized the opportunity to sign him in free agency.

Broncos Bring J.K. Dobbins to Town for Free Agent Visit
After a strong comeback season with Los Angeles in 2024, J.K. Dobbins appeared in over 10 games for the first time since his rookie year. The former second-round pick totaled 905 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on 195 carries, playing a key role in helping the Chargers reach the playoffs—though they were eliminated in the opening round.

Despite Dobbins’ productive season, the Chargers signed Najee Harris in free agency and used the 22nd overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to select standout North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton. That left Dobbins without a team, but he may now have an opportunity with the Denver Broncos.
Denver utilized a running back committee last season but lost their leading rusher, Javonte Williams, to the Dallas Cowboys in free agency.
With no established lead back on the roster, the Broncos are bringing Dobbins in for a free agent visit, potentially looking to strengthen their depth with a proven back who has demonstrated the ability to produce when healthy.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, “Former Chargers starting RB J.K. Dobbins is headed to Denver tonight to have dinner with coaches and visit the Broncos facility Thursday. The dynamic Dobbins, who posted 1,084 yards from scrimmage and 9 touchdowns in 2024, now has a shot to join an AFC West contender.”
Broncos Could Beef Up Offense with J.K. Dobbins Signing
Dobbins’ injury history is definitely a concern, but the Broncos might consider taking a chance on him with the hope that he can contribute. Currently, their running back group includes rookie RJ Harvey, Audric Estime, Jaleel McLaughlin, and Tyler Badie.
While the latter three saw playing time last season, none has solidified himself as a clear No. 1 option, and Harvey, despite being a second-round pick in the 2025 draft, is still an unknown at the pro level.
If Denver were to sign Dobbins, he could potentially step in as the Week 1 starter. For now, however, no agreement has been reached. Fans will need to monitor this situation closely, as it could quietly have a significant impact on how the Broncos’ offense shapes up for the 2025 season.
