Alabama football has landed a major commitment in its 2026 class with the addition of five-star safety Jireh Edwards. Edwards, a standout from St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Maryland, announced his decision on July 5, choosing Alabama over SEC rivals Auburn and Georgia.
At 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, Edwards is rated the No. 2 safety and No. 23 overall prospect in the 2026 class according to ESPN. His junior season was dominant, recording 92 tackles, six pass breakups, and three forced fumbles, showcasing his elite tackling ability and coverage instincts.

Edwards cited Alabama’s family environment, player development, and opportunity for early playing time as key factors in his commitment. He had previously planned visits to Oregon and Texas A&M but canceled them after deciding on Alabama.
This commitment further cements Alabama’s recruiting surge under head coach Kalen DeBoer. Edwards becomes the Tide’s sixth top-100 defensive commitment in the 2026 cycle, joining fellow five-stars Jorden Edmonds, Xavier Edwards, Zyan Gibson, Nolan Wilson, and Jamarion Matthews.
With Edwards on board, Alabama’s 2026 recruiting class continues to climb the national rankings, sitting firmly in the top 10 with potential to move higher as more top targets make their decisions this summer
