The Cardinals bolstered their farm system on Day 2 of the MLB Draft by selecting two college players: right-handed pitcher Ethan Young from East Carolina in the fifth round and outfielder Matthew Miura from the University of Hawai‘i in the sixth.
Young, a power arm, went 5-0 with a 3.84 ERA and 92 strikeouts over 70.1 innings in his lone season at ECU. Known for a fastball that sits in the mid-90s and has hit 99 mph, he offers intriguing upside, even though he primarily pitched in relief.

Miura, a leadoff hitter for Hawai‘i, showcased impressive all-around production in 2025. He led the team in batting average (.338), runs (53), hits (72), and stolen bases (18), while drawing 46 walks compared to just 20 strikeouts — a testament to his advanced plate approach. He profiles as a high-contact hitter with sneaky power and top-of-the-lineup potential.
These selections give St. Louis added versatility and depth as the organization looks to strengthen its prospect pipeline.
