The Detroit Lions are off to a strong start in their 2024 season, securing three victories in the first quarter of the campaign.

A range of players on both offense and defense have contributed to this success.

Now, let’s highlight six players who have made a significant impact for the Lions in the opening four games of the season.

EDGE AIDAN HUTCHINSON

Hutchinson has firmly established himself as Detroit’s top pass-rusher and one of the best in the league during the season’s first quarter.

In just four games, the Pro Bowler has recorded an impressive 6.5 sacks, 14 quarterback hits, and 40 pressures. He also boasts an overall grade of 93.8 from Pro Football Focus, the highest among qualified EDGE defenders, along with a 94.2 pass-rush grade. His performance has been instrumental in the Lions’ strong 3-1 start.

Given these achievements, Hutchinson is well on track to earn first-team All-Pro honors for the first time in his career.

RB DAVID MONTGOMERY

The veteran running back has seamlessly continued from his strong debut season with the Lions.

In the first four weeks of this season, he has scored a touchdown in every game, averaging 4.3 yards per carry and 67.8 rushing yards per game—just slightly below his stats from last season. He also recorded over 90 rushing yards in two of Detroit’s first four games (Weeks 1 and 3) and contributed 94 receiving yards. Notably, he dominated the L.A. Rams in overtime during the Lions’ season opener, ultimately securing the game-winning touchdown.

He’s a tough, hard-hitting runner who embodies the toughness of Dan Campbell’s team. Clearly, he has been an excellent addition during his first 18 games in Detroit.

S KERBY JOSEPH

Joseph has maintained his knack for seizing opportunities in 2024.

After notching four interceptions in each of his first two NFL seasons, he has already secured three picks this year. Just last week, he clinched the game-winning interception from Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith, which ended the Lions’ six-game losing streak against the Seahawks.

At this point, it’s clear that Detroit would struggle without Joseph anchoring its secondary.

WR JAMESON WILLIAMS

Williams has been a major catalyst for the Lions’ offense during the first four games of the season.

The third-year wide receiver is enjoying his best season yet, recording 13 receptions for 289 yards and two touchdowns. These stats are close to what he achieved last year, where he had 24 catches and 354 yards in 12 games. Williams has been dynamic with the ball, highlighted by his 70-yard touchdown catch-and-run in Week 4 against Seattle.

If this pace continues, he will continue to be an essential contributor to Jared Goff and Detroit’s aerial attack for the rest of the season.

P JACK FOX

Fox may not have received much attention as the Lions’ punter, but that doesn’t diminish his significant contribution to the team’s strong start in 2024.

After four games, he ranks among the league’s top punters with an average of 44.5 net yards per punt and has placed eight punts inside the opponents’ 20-yard line. Since joining the Lions in 2020, he has consistently performed well for the special teams unit and definitely warrants acknowledgment and respect for his contributions.

OL GRAHAM GLASGOW

Glasgow has been an overlooked asset on the Lions’ roster since returning to the team last season, and he deserves recognition for his adaptability on the offensive line.

Last year, he played three different positions (right guard, center, and left guard) and has already seen action at two spots (left guard and center) in 2024. He performed exceptionally well as a substitute for Pro Bowl center Frank Ragnow last week, achieving an impressive 82.6 PFF pass-blocking grade while allowing no sacks. This season, he has also given up zero sacks on 142 pass-blocking snaps.

In his ninth year, he has demonstrated the ability to excel at various roles within the interior offensive line, making him an essential part of Detroit’s offensive line group during the first quarter of the season.
