The Pittsburgh Steelers may explore the market for additional wide receiver talent as they prepare for the upcoming season. With concerns about their current depth chart beyond George Pickens, NFL analyst Kristopher Knox has suggested that the Steelers could be potential trade partners for Tennessee Titans’ Treylon Burks and New York Giants’ Darius Slayton.

In his analysis for Bleacher Report, Knox notes that the Steelers are looking to strengthen their receiver group, which currently includes relatively unproven players like Van Jefferson, Calvin Austin, and Roman Wilson. Jefferson’s inconsistent recent performances, along with Austin and Wilson’s ongoing development, highlight the need for a seasoned receiver to provide stability and production.
Wilson’s questionable status for Week 1 due to an ankle injury adds urgency for the Steelers to consider trade options. Slayton, in particular, could be a preferred target because of his proven track record with the Giants. Entering his sixth season, Slayton has been a consistent performer, surpassing 700 receiving yards in four of the last five seasons despite challenging quarterback play in New York.
Slayton’s experience and reliability make him an appealing option for Pittsburgh as they compete in the tough AFC North. On the other hand, Burks is a less certain option; the former first-round pick has struggled with injuries and inconsistent play, falling behind newly acquired veterans Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd on the Titans’ depth chart.
While Burks’ potential is undeniable, his history of injuries raises questions about his ability to contribute significantly in Pittsburgh. However, his youth and physical attributes could still make him a valuable asset if he can stay healthy.
For the Steelers, acquiring either receiver would involve minimal cost, allowing them to pursue these options without significant financial or draft capital investment. As Pittsburgh aims to bolster its roster and support quarterback Russell Wilson, adding a wide receiver like Slayton or Burks could be crucial in enhancing their passing attack and boosting their playoff chances.
