The Cincinnati Reds officially released infielder today. He had been designated for assignment on June 23rd after coming off the 10-day injured list, and after clearing waivers, he is no longer with the team.

He joined the Reds on a three-year contract with a fourth-year option ahead of the 2024 season. In that first year, he displayed solid power—hitting 20 home runs, 23 doubles, and two triples over 112 games—but struggled in other areas, posting a .225 batting average and a .279 on-base percentage.

Both Him and the Reds had hoped for a bounce-back year in 2025, but instead his performance declined sharply. In April, he slashed just .113/.198/.213 with 29 strikeouts before landing on the injured list with a lumbar spine strain.

After more than a month away, he began a rehab stint, first in the Arizona Complex League and then with Triple-A Louisville. However, he continued to struggle, managing only a .651 OPS and striking out 19 times in 15 games. With his rehab window closing, the Reds were forced to make a decision.

Ultimately, Cincinnati chose to part ways with Candelario despite being on the hook for \$16 million in 2025, \$13 million in 2026, and a \$3 million buyout for 2027.
