The New York Mets are gearing up to bolster their infield this offseason.

According to baseball writer Mike Rodriguez, the Mets have offered a seven-year, $160 million contract to free agent infielder. They envision Him playing third base, though he reportedly prefers to remain at shortstop.

Adames, 29, is among the top available infielders this offseason, alongside Alex Bregman and Mets slugger Pete Alonso. Last season with the Milwaukee Brewers, he posted a .251 batting average, a .794 OPS, 32 home runs, 112 RBIs, and 21 stolen bases—a set of skills many teams would eagerly pay for.

Primarily a shortstop throughout his career (with a brief stint at second base for Tampa Bay in 2018), Adames would join the Mets’ infield alongside four-time All-Star Francisco Lindor, who’s already secured at shortstop.

Moving Adames to third could shift postseason standout Mark Vientos from third to first base, potentially making Alonso expendable. However, persuading Adames to switch positions might be challenging, especially with other teams vying for his talents as well.
