The New York Yankees have already made a major move before Tuesday’s trade deadline, acquiring All-Star Jazz Chisholm Jr. from the Miami Marlins at a bargain price.

However, this doesn’t mean Brian Cashman and his team are finished with their transactions with less than 24 hours remaining before the deadline.

The Yankees are still considering changes to their rotation. With a 62-45 record as of today and trailing the Baltimore Orioles by one game in the American League East, they’re in a tight race for the division title.

Recent updates on the Yankees’ trade deadline activities indicate that they are in deep discussions with the Detroit Tigers regarding star pitcher Jack Flaherty. Additionally, the Yankees are exploring the possibility of trading All-Star pitcher Nestor Cortes, potentially as part of a deal involving Flaherty.

Jack Flaherty would provide New York Yankees with upgrade in the rotation

Flaherty, 28, has been dependable for the Tigers this season, boasting a 7-5 record with a 2.95 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP. He is currently under a one-year, $14 million contract, suggesting that he might be a rental option.

The Yankees’ rotation has been inconsistent this season. Gerrit Cole has struggled, recording a 5.40 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP in seven starts since his return from injury.

Luis Gil (10-5 record, 3.10 ERA) and Marcus Stroman (7-5 record, 3.64 ERA) have been the standout starters so far.

To strengthen their position as a serious contender against Baltimore in the AL East, adding another high-caliber starter could be crucial. Flaherty would represent an upgrade over Cortes, who has a 4.13 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP.
