The New York Mets have started the 2025 MLB season on a strong note, posting a 21-9 record through their first 30 games and building a 4.5-game lead atop the National League East.
Their pitching has been outstanding, and the offense is beginning to click—highlighted by a dominant 19-5 win over the Washington Nationals on Monday.
Despite their early success, the Mets have made a few roster adjustments to maintain momentum. Following their series opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks, the team announced several moves via their X account.

“Left-hander Brandon Waddell has been selected to the Major League roster,” the Mets stated. “Right-hander Kevin Herget was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse after last night’s game.”
Waddell is returning to the majors for the first time since 2021, when he last appeared with the St. Louis Cardinals. His promotion comes after an impressive start in Triple-A, where he’s posted a 1.54 ERA over five games, allowing just six runs and striking out 21 while walking seven.
As for Herget, he’s being sent down to fine-tune his mechanics. His lone appearance for New York this season wasn’t ideal—he gave up a run and struck out only one batter in two innings. Although the outing was brief, the Mets believe time in the minors will benefit his development.
