The Red Sox activated Him from the 10-day injured list on Monday, just ahead of their series against the Los Angeles Angels at Fenway Park.
To make room on the roster, Boston optioned utility player Nate Eaton to Triple-A Worcester. He had been sidelined since May 10 due to a left quad strain.
Before rejoining the team, the 28-year-old González appeared in two rehab games with Triple-A Worcester. Eaton, who was called up on Sunday, did not see any game action.

This season, González has hit .308 (16-for-52) with six doubles in 17 games for Boston. He has started 10 games at first base, and one each at second and third.
The Red Sox and Angels are set to begin their matchup at 7:10 p.m. ET, with pregame coverage starting an hour earlier on NESN.
