The Ohio State football team is expected to explore the spring transfer portal in search of talented additions. With several roster gaps to address before the season kicks off, the defensive line stands out as a key area the Buckeyes are aiming to strengthen.

Although the defensive front is their most pressing concern, it may not be the only position they look to reinforce. The team recently lost its top two running backs from last season, TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins, both of whom are heading to the NFL.

Running back is definitely a position that could use a boost. The Buckeyes have already added CJ Donaldson via the portal, but with another skilled back recently becoming available, should Ohio State consider pursuing him as well?

Should the Ohio State football team try to bring Jaydn Ott to Columbus?

Cal running back Jaydn Ott has officially entered the transfer portal, quickly emerging as one of the top backs available. In 2023, he rushed for over 1,300 yards and scored 12 touchdowns, though his role diminished significantly last season with the Bears.

The Buckeyes are confident in what they have with CJ Donaldson and James Peoples, but they’ve never hesitated to pursue elite talent if they believe it will elevate the team. Adding Ott would bring proven experience to a backfield that currently lacks depth.

However, it’s unlikely Ohio State will make a move for Ott. While he’s still a strong player in the right system, the Buckeyes are content with their current running back group and have more urgent areas to address through the portal. They view running back as more of a luxury than a necessity right now.

That said, if Ohio State decides to pass on Ott, they’ll be hoping he doesn’t end up elsewhere in the Big Ten—where he could potentially boost a rival program.
