Professional sports are a ruthless industry, often reminding fans and players that business decisions take precedence over loyalty.
That reality hit home in Seattle on Wednesday when one of the Seahawks’ all-time greats announced his departure from the team.
“I really enjoyed being in Seattle! I met so many great people and captured so many great memories! The 12’s really make this place meaningful! Although my time on the Seahawks may have run its course, I’m thankful for everything!! God gets all the glory forever!!!!” wide receiver Tyler Lockett tweeted.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter provided insight into the Seahawks’ decision, which, unsurprisingly, came down to finances.
“The Seahawks are releasing an all-time franchise great, wide receiver Tyler Lockett, who amassed 8,594 receiving yards and 61 touchdowns over 10 seasons in Seattle. The team is opting to release Lockett rather than pay his $17 million salary for this season, including a $5.3 million roster bonus due March 16.”

Fans took to social media to react to the tough decision.
“A solid WR all around. Dude was never a diva and probably should’ve had even more receptions if he were the #1 option… but he’ll keep that same energy somewhere that wants him,” one fan tweeted.
“Wow, that’s wild. Lockett has been a stud for them and always seems undervalued. Someone’s getting a great player,” another fan wrote.

“Man, so sad to see him go!! Love his response: God be the Glory!” another added.
Lockett’s tenure in Seattle was marked by professionalism and consistency, and hopefully, he finds a new opportunity soon.
