The White Sox have released outfielder, as announced by their Triple-A affiliate, the Charlotte Knights. SinceHe was removed from the team’s 40-man roster back in March, this move doesn’t affect Chicago’s major league roster.
His departure marks a disappointing conclusion to his time with the organization. At 26, he was a notable player in both Cuba and Japan before joining affiliated baseball with Chicago, signing for a $2.7 million bonus in early 2022.
He dominated minor league pitching that year and quickly became recognized as a top-100 prospect heading into 2023. After a strong spring training, He made the major league roster but struggled through 75 games, hitting only .216/.257/.314 with a high 27% strikeout rate and a low 4.6% walk rate.
Despite the team’s rough 101-loss season, the White Sox decided not to stick with Colas at the major league level and sent him back to the minors. In Triple-A, he showed some improvement, hitting .272/.345/.465 in 54 games.

With the White Sox entering a rebuilding phase in 2024, many expected Colas to get another shot in the majors, but playing time in right field mostly went to Dominic Fletcher, Gavin Sheets, and Tommy Pham instead.
Colas spent nearly all of 2024 in Triple-A, where his performance declined, hitting just .246/.332/.400 over 400 plate appearances. In his limited 13 major league games that year, he hit .273/.368/.273 with no extra-base hits.
The team also added outfielders like Mike Tauchman and Austin Slater rather than giving Colas more chances. This season, he struggled further, slashing .163/.245/.255 across Double-A and Triple-A in 29 games before the White Sox decided to release him.
Now a free agent, Colas can sign with any of the league’s other 29 teams. Still only 26 and not far removed from strong minor league numbers, it’s possible a team needing outfield depth might give him a chance.
Alternatively, he could consider playing overseas again, building on his experience with Japan’s Fukuoka Softbank Hawks in 2019. If opportunities in the U.S. don’t materialize, he could try to revive his career abroad before aiming for an MLB comeback, a path some players have successfully taken.
