After being removed from the Milwaukee Brewers’ starting rotation and subsequently requesting a trade, pitcher is on his way to the Chicago White Sox, both teams announced Friday.
According to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers, the Brewers dealt Him, 30, to the White Sox in exchange for first baseman. He, 27, is a former first-round draft pick who is hitting just .189 this season but has totaled 77 home runs over his four and a half MLB seasons.
Civale lost his rotation spot earlier in the week when Milwaukee called up top pitching prospect Jacob Misiorowski on Tuesday.

The 6-foot-7 right-hander debuted Thursday and impressed, firing 14 pitches at 100 mph or more and tossing five no-hit innings before exiting due to calf and quad cramps. He earned the win in a 6-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals and said afterward that the cramping was minor and he felt fine physically.
Once informed he’d be moved to the bullpen, Civale’s agent Jack Toffey contacted Brewers GM Matt Arnold to discuss his client’s future.
“The conversation was very professional,” Toffey told The Athletic on Thursday. “I just respectfully shared that Aaron would prefer to continue his career as a starter. He’s set to be a free agent after this season.”
Though Civale pitched in relief during last year’s wild-card series against the Mets, he has started all 122 regular-season games of his seven-year career, which includes stops with the Cleveland Guardians and Tampa Bay Rays. He strained his left hamstring during his first appearance this year but has posted a 3.32 ERA in four starts since returning on May 22.

The Brewers receive Vaughn in the deal. The right-handed slugger has struggled in 2025, hitting under .200 with career lows in on-base percentage (.218) and slugging (.314). He’s tallied five home runs and 19 RBIs in 193 plate appearances.
Milwaukee plans to use Vaughn at first base and designated hitter. To balance the salary difference—Civale is making \$8 million and Vaughn \$5.85 million this season—the Brewers are also sending cash to the White Sox. Vaughn is under team control for one more year through arbitration.
