MIAMI — The Phillies announced Sunday that they had acquired left-handed pitcher from the Miami Marlins.
In exchange, Miami received two prospects: outfielder Emaarion Boyd and infielder Starlyn Caba. Philadelphia also picked up catcher Paul McIntosh as part of the deal.
Luzardo, who has faced injury setbacks throughout his career, posted a 5.00 ERA over 12 starts for Miami in 2024 before a lumbar stress reaction cut his season short. In 2023, Luzardo was a key part of the Marlins’ playoff push, making 32 starts with a 10-10 record and a 3.58 ERA. That season, he struck out 208 batters with an impressive 30% strikeout rate.

He now joins a strong Phillies rotation that includes Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, Ranger Suárez, and Cristopher Sánchez.
The Marlins have been focused on rebuilding in recent months, trading away veterans like three-time batting champion Luis Arraez, star outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr., and other key players with significant MLB salaries.
Caba, 19, played in 116 minor league games across three levels for the Phillies from 2023 to 2024. Boyd, 21, was drafted by the Phillies in the 11th round of the 2022 draft and appeared in 198 minor league games within their system.
To clear space on their 40-man roster for Luzardo, the Phillies designated left-handed pitcher Tyler Gilbert for assignment.
