Auburn flipped Nate Marshall from Michigan football this week—could the Wolverines get back at them by landing a top-tier cornerback?
Michigan football has faced some challenges on the recruiting front this week, losing their top-ranked 2025 commit, Nate Marshall, to Auburn. Marshall, a 6-foot-4, 260-pound defensive lineman ranked 49th overall in the 2025 class, initially committed in April but has now decided to join the Tigers.

While this setback is disappointing, it’s not catastrophic. The Wolverines are actively pursuing their own targets, particularly in the cornerback position, and one player they’re seriously eyeing is Auburn’s four-star cornerback, Donovan Starr.
Michigan football aiming for a flip
Starr, hailing from Brentwood, Tennessee, stands at 6-foot and weighs 176 pounds. He’s currently ranked No. 416 in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
After committing to Auburn in June, Starr was also pursued by Clemson, but the Tigers have a full cornerback roster for 2025. Michigan, however, is making a strong push to flip Starr, according to EJ Holland of The Wolverine.
A visit to Michigan this fall could bolster their efforts, as they aren’t the only program interested in Starr. Holland notes that the Wolverines are expected to secure a visit this fall.
Starr is also an impressive athlete, running the 100-meter dash in 10.56 seconds—remarkable for someone who is 6-foot-1. Ravenwood, where Starr is from, is a familiar recruiting ground for Michigan, as they previously landed current cornerback Myles Pollard and Junior Colson, who played for two seasons before joining Jim Harbaugh’s LA Chargers.
Recruiting visits often play a crucial role, and getting Starr on campus would indicate that Michigan has a legitimate shot at flipping this Auburn blue-chip commitment.
