According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Miami Dolphins and Jalen Ramsey are reportedly on the same page about exploring potential trade opportunities, meaning the former Los Angeles Rams star cornerback could be on the move once again. Ramsey played a key role in the Rams’ Super Bowl LVI victory in 2021.
This wouldn’t be the first time Ramsey’s exit has been somewhat dramatic. After being drafted fifth overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2016, he made headlines by arriving at training camp in a Brinks truck during a contract dispute.
He also missed the early part of the 2019 season with a back injury—one that seemingly cleared up quickly after he was traded to Los Angeles. The Rams gave up two first-round picks and a fourth-rounder to land him.

Ramsey’s departure from the Rams, however, was more professional. Following the 2022 season, the team faced salary cap constraints and began restructuring deals for stars like Aaron Donald, Matthew Stafford, and Cooper Kupp.
Ramsey became the odd man out and was dealt to the Dolphins, who agreed to guarantee the rest of his contract. In return, the Rams received a third-round pick and tight end Hunter Long.
What is next for Jalen Ramsey?
The veteran has a fully guaranteed $25.1 million cap hit for this season, which makes him a tough fit for most NFL teams this late in the offseason—unless they make unexpected contract restructures or post-June 1 moves. That significantly narrows the list of possible destinations for Ramsey.

On top of that, Ramsey is now over 30, an age when cornerbacks often experience a steep decline.
While he did show versatility in college at Florida State by playing some safety, and that could be a potential role for him as he ages, there’s still the question of whether any team is willing to spend $25.1 million on an older player with limited experience at that position in the NFL.
