The Chicago White Sox announced Thursday that they have signed former All-Star outfielder to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
He spent the 2024 season with the Washington Nationals, playing in 76 games and posting a .161/.277/.336 slash line with 10 home runs and 27 RBIs. The previous year, he was with the Minnesota Twins, where he hit .177/.301/.440 with 21 home runs and 40 RBIs in 111 games.
Since being traded from the Texas Rangers midway through the 2021 season, He has bounced around the league. Originally a first-round pick by Texas in 2012, he made his MLB debut in 2015 and quickly established himself as a power hitter. In 2017, he hit 41 home runs with 80 RBIs and followed that up with another 40-homer season in 2018.
He earned his first All-Star selection in 2019 and another in 2021, his final year with the Rangers. That summer, he was dealt to the New York Yankees in a six-player trade. However, his time in New York was a struggle, as he slashed just .159/.291/.368 with 25 home runs in 140 games.
Midway through 2022, the Yankees traded Gallo to the Los Angeles Dodgers, but he continued to struggle, hitting .162 with seven home runs in 44 games. Since leaving Texas, he has not been able to recapture his early-career success.

Now, Gallo is getting an opportunity with the rebuilding White Sox, who finished the 2024 season with an MLB-worst 121 losses. Given Chicago’s lack of depth, he has a chance to earn a roster spot and potentially revive his career. In an ideal scenario, he could perform well in the first half of the season and become a trade candidate for a contending team.
For now, Gallo is focused on proving himself in spring training. With a decade of MLB experience, he holds a career .194 batting average with 208 home runs, 453 RBIs, and 1,292 strikeouts. He’ll look to add to those totals and make the most of his opportunity in Chicago.
