Sean McVay plans to give more playing time to one of the Los Angeles Rams’ under-the-radar receivers in the upcoming season.
Following Cooper Kupp’s departure, the Rams restructured their wide receiver corps by bringing in All-Pro Davante Adams to fill the WR1 role. Adams, along with breakout star Puka Nacua, is expected to be one of Matthew Stafford’s top targets next year.
However, McVay recently shared that Tutu Atwell could see a bigger role in the offense as well. He admitted that Atwell hasn’t been fully utilized in past seasons, despite quietly finishing third on the team in both receptions and receiving yards last year.

“When he’s been on the field—whether due to injuries or rotation—he’s stepped up and produced,” McVay told reporters, per Pro Football Talk’s Josh Alper. “We’re excited to see him continue to grow.”
McVay also noted that Atwell will likely appear frequently in three-receiver sets alongside Adams and Nacua.
The Rams re-signed Atwell to a one-year deal after his fourth NFL season, during which he recorded 42 catches for 569 yards—both career highs. With McVay looking to expand his role, Atwell’s production could continue to climb in 2025.
