The Seattle Seahawks made several roster adjustments ahead of their Week 4 game against the Detroit Lions, with the most notable move being the signing of Super Bowl-winning cornerback Tyler Hall. Hall, who was part of the 2021 Los Angeles Rams team and appeared in four games that season, joins the Seahawks’ defense.

Additionally, Seattle signed defensive tackle Matt Gotel to help bolster their defensive line, as Leonard Williams and Byron Murphy II are both dealing with injuries. Gotel is no stranger to the Seahawks, having spent time on their practice squad last season and impressing during training camp before getting hurt.

Hall played 11 games, including three starts, for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023. To accommodate these signings, the Seahawks released former second-round pick Marquise Blair, marking the second time in less than a week that Blair has been let go. Blair was initially released before Week 3, only to be re-signed to the practice squad and then released again.

The Seahawks also cleared another roster spot by placing running back George Holani on the practice squad injured reserve. Injuries continue to plague Seattle’s backfield, with star running back Ken Walker sidelined due to an abdominal issue.

The Injuries to Seahawks Stars Leonard Williams & Byron Murphy II Are Worth Monitoring

The signing of Gotel raises some intrigue, especially given the uncertainty surrounding the injuries to Williams and Murphy. Both players exited during the team’s Week 3 win over the Miami Dolphins and did not return. Gotel has also previously played for the Atlanta Falcons and the XFL’s San Antonio Brahmas.

Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald addressed Williams’ injury during a September 22, 2024, press conference, saying, “I don’t know the severity of it. There’s something going on with his midsection—maybe ribs or something else—but I believe we got an image of it. We’ll know more in the next few days.”

The Seahawks Are Showing an Interest in 9-Time Pro Bowler Jason Peters

More roster changes could be in the works as the team prepares for their primetime matchup in Detroit. The Seahawks recently welcomed nine-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman Jason Peters for a visit on September 24. Peters appeared in eight games for Seattle last season.

“Veteran OT Jason Peters visited the Seahawks as a free agent,” ESPN’s Field Yates reported on X on September 24. “The 42-year-old played in 8 games for Seattle last season.”

This development raises concerns about the status of starting right tackle Abe Lucas, who remains sidelined with an injury. Lucas has yet to play this season and was limited to just six games in 2023.
