Instead of remaining with the San Francisco 49ers alongside Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel might benefit from joining a different team before the season ends. Bleacher Report’s latest NFL analysis suggests the New York Jets could be an ideal destination for the wide receiver.

Samuel recently reached a significant milestone, becoming the first wide receiver in NFL history to record 20 receiving touchdowns and 20 rushing touchdowns. This accomplishment underscores Samuel’s remarkable versatility, which has reshaped the role of wide receivers in the league.

In the 49ers’ recent win over the Seattle Seahawks, Samuel caught a 76-yard touchdown pass, his second receiving touchdown of the season and the 20th of his career. Although his rushing output in 2024 hasn’t matched his breakout 2021 season, where he tallied 1,408 receiving yards and 365 rushing yards, Samuel continues to display his diverse skill set.

Only 19 players in NFL history have achieved the 20/20 milestone, most of them running backs, such as Alvin Kamara and Christian McCaffrey. Among wide receivers, Samuel stands alone, with Jerry Rice’s 10 rushing touchdowns being the next closest.

While Samuel may not reach the same heights as his 2021 season, his ability to contribute both as a receiver and a rusher cements his legacy. His milestone not only highlights his unique talent but also sets a new standard for wide receivers. As the game evolves, Samuel’s achievement could inspire future players to expand their skill sets, blurring the traditional roles in football.

NFL Analysis Projects New York Jets Acquiring Wide Receiver Deebo Samuel

If things don’t pan out for Deebo Samuel in San Francisco, it might be the right time for him to consider a trade request. Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon has proposed that the New York Jets could be a potential landing spot for the wide receiver.

The offseason drama involving Brandon Aiyuk made it crucial for the 49ers to retain Samuel, but questions about his long-term future with the team have resurfaced.

In short, the organization may part ways with Samuel after this season because his production hasn’t justified his price tag. However, the structure of his contract might force San Francisco to hold onto him until the 2025 season—a timeline that coincides with what could be Aaron Rodgers’ final year in the league.

If the Jets are all-in, they could pursue Davante Adams. But as a backup plan, Samuel, known for his ability to make plays in the open field, could be a great fit. With Rodgers no longer excelling in deep passes, an elusive playmaker like Samuel could provide a needed spark. A change of scenery could also benefit Samuel.

As the NFL trade deadline nears, speculation grows about a potential deal sending Samuel to New York. Given concerns about his future in San Francisco, some believe the Jets could capitalize on his dynamic skills, especially with Rodgers’ struggles on deep throws. In return, the 49ers might receive a third-round pick in 2025. Though this trade is still hypothetical, it underscores the evolving strategies teams may need to consider in the coming weeks.
